History of First CRC
Learn all about God's Faithfulness over the past 100+ years
Our History
First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Falls began in 1923 with a small group of families who gathered to worship God and grow together in faith. What started with 12 families and 60 members has grown into a church family committed to following Jesus Christ and sharing his love with our community and the world.
As Sioux Falls grew, so did First CRC. The congregation moved to larger facilities in 1951 before building its current church home on East 26th Street in 1967. Over the decades, additional building projects, new ministries, and the planting of two daughter churches reflected a continuing desire to serve a growing congregation and reach more people with the gospel.
Throughout our history, ministry has extended beyond Sunday worship. First CRC has invested in Christian education, supported missionaries around the world, partnered with local organizations, and developed ministries that care for people in every season of life.
In 2023, we celebrated 100 years of God’s faithfulness. Today, we continue to build on that legacy, rooted in Scripture, centered on Jesus Christ, and looking toward the future with hope. Our guiding conviction comes from Romans 11:36: “From Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to Him be the glory forever.”
We are grateful for the generations who have shaped First CRC, and we look forward to what God has in store for the years ahead.
