In this second-last section of our study of the ministry of the Holy Spirit, we will turn our attention to the Spirit’s work empowering the local church through gifts. The “Gifts of the Holy Spirit” may conjure up numerous thoughts, such as: using your gifts to serve the church, discovering your spiritual gifts, and yes, coming to understand the wide range of gifts that the Spirit dispenses. But one thing is abundantly clear and will set the stage for this two-part study of I Corinthians 12-14: “All these [gifts] are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as He wills.” (1 Cor. 12:11 ESV). The Spirit knows what the local church needs and gifts accordingly for the church’s edification and the building up of the believers!
