Worship

Worship is God’s gift to His loved children. In the “formal” worship services held each Sunday we are invited to meet and bring honor to Jesus Christ. That’s a big statement so let’s unpack it.

The Father invites us into His presence to voice praise for His great acts of love and grace. He invites us, therefore, to meet His Son who is the fulfillment of His Word of truth and grace. In worship we feast on His love, joyfully embrace His grace, learn His truth and are equipped to zealously walk in His footsteps.

In the Reformed tradition, worship is a Biblical dialogue between God and His people – God speaks and we respond. Practically, that means we gather to worship “to learn what God teaches, to participate in the sacraments, to pray to God publicly, and to bring Christian offerings for the poor” (Heidelberg Catechism, LD 38, QA 103). These acts of worship, however, are also intended to be the liturgy of a daily life empowered by the Holy Spirit. Worship that brings honor to the Lord is revealed in children, women and men who live according to God’s word, embrace the assurance of His grace, daily call upon Him to provide strength and wisdom, and out of gratitude selflessly give of personal time and treasure to be a witness to gracious rule of Jesus Christ!!

The central piece of Reformed worship is the preaching of the Word. The Bible is the light through which He reveals, saves, encourages, guides and gives hope in Jesus Christ! We believe that when a Church is faithfully rooted in and preaches the Bible, she can expect the Holy Spirit to convict her of sin, create in her new life, assure her of His limitless grace, transform her more and more into the image of Jesus, and fill her with hope in a secure future.
