Who We Are

First Christian Reformed Church is a growing community of faith of approximately 1,150 members. While each one represents a different journey in life, each one also represents a common faith, hope and love in Jesus Christ. First CRC is not a perfect community of faith; it is, however, a community that joyfully feasts and lives on the generous and free grace of Jesus Christ!

Our History

First Christian Reformed Church was founded in 1923 and has given birth to Shalom Christian Reformed Church and Heartland Community Church, both in Sioux Falls. We are one of nearly 1,000 Christian Reformed congregations in the United States and Canada.  Together with these congregations, we have missionaries and works of mercy worldwide.

What does it mean that we are Christian Reformed?

The best way to answer that question is to quote our Vision Statement. We are "Wholly in Christ, Holy in Life”.

First, to be Reformed means that our focus is Jesus Christ because He is the ruler of the universe, the Church and our lives (Colossians 1:15-20). Because the Father loved sinners, He sent Jesus into the world to deliver children, women and men from sin, and today invites each person to know Him and follow Him through the power of the Holy Spirit!

Second, to be Reformed means that Jesus is the source of our daily life (Colossians 3:1-4). We believe that He pours His life into our hearts when we prayerfully study the Bible and follow what it teaches (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Because we place our confidence in the Bible as the way the Lord speaks to us today, we make every thought, desire, motivation and choice captive to His Word.

Third, to be Reformed means that we daily desire and seek to live a life worthy of the name of Jesus Christ (Colossians 3:5-14). We believe that every member should strive to be an ambassador of Jesus and a contender for His cause in the world.
